anju Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 hi, we are a small pre-school on a school site. we have an income (mostly from EYFE money) of around 30,000 but don't make any profit. do we have to register as a charity? i think I need to advise the committee on this as they have not done anything about it and I'm worried there might be a problem at some point. thanks Quote
Cait Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 Er, It only came up for us when we wanted to access grants. But with that type of income you'll definitely need to send an annual return to the Charities Commission Quote
Guest Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 http://www.charity-commission.gov.uk/publications/cc21.asp Have you tried looking on the charity website.. it has lots of info...... Quote
lynned55 Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 I think that anyone who has a board of trustees (i.e a committee) and charges has to register as a charity. Otherwise you would have to be a company Quote
Alison Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 you could consider being a "not for profit" small business which can be run much like a charity but slightly different rules I dont have the link but there should be something on the inland revenue web site, its worth checking the difference Quote
anju Posted February 1, 2009 Author Posted February 1, 2009 thanks for your replies. I've looked on charity commission website but it seems to be trying to put you off applying so I wasn't clear if it was compulsory. will try googling the not-for-profit company thing, thanks very much Quote
Cait Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 Let us know what you find, I'd be very interested too Quote
