Eal - Urdu Language

 Share

Recommended Posts

Well we have a child who speaks very little English which is resulting in agressive, fustrative behaviour. I know as I have felt the full force (off to docs later). Mum who again speaks very little English too ends up having to say with him, strangely enough dad stayed today and had no bother but dad did look a little lost at times .

I have tried to get in contact with the people on the my LEA with any luck yet.

The problem is I don't know where else to turn to get some basic language would help or other stragigies (sp) would be good too.

Does anyone have any clues Please?

Thanks

Beth

Thanks Loby loo for your response, I was still at the doctors when you replied, nice injury though! hence not repling sooner.

That video was ok for very simple words.

No we haven't got a visual timetable, never thought of that using the setting as pictures. :o

I've been posting re our Brazilian/Portuguese speaker and found our Multicultural Services Team really helpful. You can also order the EAL booklet from Teachernet which is helpful and you and your staff team could work through it together. One book the Multicultural team gave us was called Phrases for School which has lots of popular phrases we might use and the phonic spellings to help us say the words correctly. It is published by Avanti Books under the 'Schools Series'. They also suggested using a picture fan (like a number fan) adding pictures for key events, things you want to address etc. Could you possibly use Makaton too to reinforce your expectations?

I also ordered the new EYFS Height Chart which comes in lots of languages: Explore www.publications.teachernet.gov.uk for that one. It will come up under 'new publications'. If nothing else it will encourage 2-way communication with parents and help build a relationship. (Order the EAL Booklet while you're there!). Persist with your Multicultural Services team tho, why not ring your local primary school for the contact number?

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

The playing together DVD can also0 now be ordered on there in different languages.. hope you have more success with the delivery though.. we ordered some in Polish for the 4 children we have and only 1 turned up! ( but we did get 5 in Hindu!) Not much help, have tried again.. we just wait and see if we can get enough!

we use Makaton a lot, and visual timetables, we tried picture fans but did not work for our children at the time.. or now come to that..

Just a thanks for the web link!!

I don't have very much EAl experience but when we had a little Polish girl start nursery I found it very sad that there was little help to be found anywhere..........

Now EAL seems to be the big thing but at that point I couldn't even find a translator!!

Good luck with your quest!
