Need A Hug

Sorry, i know I'm being selfish here, but have had an awful day. My Mum had a stroke last night, I've spent most of the day in the hospital, have had to tell son and daughter this news about their much-loved Gran and just want to sit down and bawl. Pete (husband) is a star, but Somehow, when you find out your parents aren't invulnerable it's a real shaker!!

Don't yet know the prognosis, she's stable right now...

So sorry about your Mum. Spent time with my mum in A&E this week following a nasty fall. Hope she makes a full recovery and you take care.

Oh Sue,

Words seem so inadequate but I am sending you hugs and positive thoughts and fingers crossed the news will be good. It was me with my Mum in 1988 and you are so right, I thought my Mum would be around for ever and the realisation that they are as vulnerable as the rest of us is a huge shock. She made a full recovery and hoping your Mum does too.

Do take care and try and get a good nights sleep and know lots of people are thinking of you all.

Hi Sue,

Wishing your mum a full and speedy recovery, and have a big hug from me too. Been there with my dad last year so I know how tough it is.

Chin up, we're all thinking of you. :)

Hi Sue

Hope your news is better today. My Mum is 78 in a couple of weeks and more often than not neither looks or acts her age. So, like you, I think she will always be around and be the same. So on the days when she isn't as well as she has been it hits home hard.

Take care

Linda

Here's an update for all you lovely people.

Mum is now eating a soft diet with normal fluids, so that's good, although the stroke has affected her right side (of course she's right handed!) so meals take some time - she's determined to do it herself! Communication is still difficult, but again, Mum's a fighter with a sense of humour, so her frustrations are translated into determination and amusement at Mum's facial gymnastics when we get it all wrong. She's always been very expressive, good to see that still there.

She's been moved into the Rehab. ward, so next stop is home, although that's a long way down the road. She's having some pretty intensive Physio. as she still can't move right arm and hand (right leg moving a bit), and the Speech Therapy should start soon.

I must really thank you all again for your support, and Steve for setting this great community up in the first place. :D Have any of you read his article about the setting up of the site? It makes for interesting reading, I must say! :o

Bye for now, keep you posted

Sue :D
