Suggestions/ Ideas

Hi

I am very priviliged to have been asked to be godmother to my beautifull niece. I do not want to get her the traditional silver trinket as these tend to gather dust. I have bought a pink silver plated engraved keepsake box which I want to make up with memorable bits for her. At the moment I have a personalised baptism candle, 2007 coin set, A local paper from the day she was born and that is it. I am now asking for your ideas for other items that I can put in the box for her, if it is any help she was born 6th July 2007 and will be christened March this year. Your help would be great.

How about a set of stamps (you can get some presentation packs, I think but I'm no philatelist!), a 'first tooth' or 'first curl' box?

When I was young a traditional gift was one of those silver bracelets that expanded as you grew - I remember seeing lots of chubby little wrists with the little silver band on. I wasn't christened until I was about 7 or 8, so I never had one and I always resented it! Wonder if they make them any more...

I heard once of someone who wrote their godchild a letter outlining her hopes and aspirations for their future life, and she intended to write a letter each year documenting achievements, developments etc. Each year they were filed away and obviously provided a lovely life story. Not sure how long she kept it up for though!

Hope someone comes along with some really inspiring ideas - your niece is very lucky to have such a thoughtful godmother!

That is such a lovely idea! I went for a gold expandable bangle for my first goddaughter with her name engraved on the front and the date of the christening on the back. Subsequent god-children (I have 7 in total) we're not so lucky but I was working in a well paid job and didn't have children myself.

Thinking back on it, that would have been a nice idea to collect little bits and pieces for her, particularly as I don't see her very often since they moved away. I will try and think of things you could use, but Maz and Biccy's suggestions are good.

A fashion magazine. Compilation CD. Motoring magazine. Music mag. Childrens books. Waterstones were selling Janet and John books at christmas, and it really took me back :o
