I know it's short notice but just wondering what card/gift ideas you are doing this year and any nice verses etc. We adapt the card for children with no mum,etc but feel ideas a bit stale now

definitely too short for our one this year,

we have managed to gather a load of CD cases, taken out the middle and the children have drawn a picture of mum to go inside, photo on the other side and then made the wrapping paper to wrap it, looks really effective and easily hung on the wall for display, was very easy to make and children have made some really lovely pictures,

My source for cases was a relative (record producer) but the local after school club found them in local £shop. ( leader works with us!!)

Each of our keyworker groups is making a different card, based on their stage of development. We have also made bookmarks which the children have decorated and then watched in amazement when we laminated them (K&U of World I suppose!). They then hole punched the bottom and added their choice of ribbon. Hey presto!

If it helps I posted our templates under a topic earlier this week - see 'Mothers Day Poems'

We make peppermint creams for the children to give their mums. We have a mother's day assembly as well ans all the moms are given a daffodil.

Our children have made cards with scented ( my personal supply of Dewberry Oli :o ) Pot pourri, various glitter paper, ribbons, hole punched heart shapes, fake flower petals etc to glue onto the front as they wish.

As the children are making the cards the staff member talks to the child about why he/she loves his/her mum, what does mum do for you? what does mum play with you? etc. The answers are jotted down and included inside the card on the left and a poem from the other topic is on the right inside page.

p.s. one boy when asked why do you love your mum answered " Cos I do" says it all really. :D

Peggy we have done a similar thing to you with the reasons why they love mum - one girl who loves her snack and would spend all day at the snack table said 'I love my mum because she feeds me'! One track mind me thinks :o

I gave the children clay yesterday. They moulded it and stuck bits of pasta in. When I go back tomorrow we'll paint the models or cover them in PVA for a shine. :D
