Guest DeborahF Posted December 7, 2006 Posted December 7, 2006 We've been asked to get hold of some printed Makaton signs/symbols to use in the nursery with a little boy who has very delayed speech - we'll be encouraging him to make choices between two activities, etc. by showing him the signss, e.g. sand or water? Does anyone know where we can get these symbols from -any websites or anything? Many thanks
Guest Posted December 7, 2006 Posted December 7, 2006 (edited) Hi Deborah, here's a link to the makaton website -lots of stuff there!! http://www.makaton.org/ Found this link too which might bed useful: http://www.deafsign.com/ds/index.cfm?scn=booknews Edited December 7, 2006 by Guest
Guest Posted December 7, 2006 Posted December 7, 2006 You can buy a programme called 'widgit' that creates signs that you type. Try: http://www.widgit.com/
Guest Posted December 7, 2006 Posted December 7, 2006 http://www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/somethingspe...int/print.shtml the cbeebies something special website has printouts for a range of vocabulary showing a photo, black & white symbol and the makaton sign. you can also watch video clips to see how to do each of the signs.
Guest Posted December 7, 2006 Posted December 7, 2006 I agree, Widget is really good if you can get it
Inge Posted December 7, 2006 Posted December 7, 2006 we usually get the signs from whoever asked us to introduce them.... If asked to use one system would suggest you use that one rather than another, it could be that consistency is the key and the signs can be used by lots of different places at once ( in our case, us, springboard, speech therapy, portage, parents, so need to be the same) If we cannot get a symbol we use a photograph as it is individual to the setting. If possible we display a photo with the sign to make them clearer, particularly when beginning. Inge
