I read somewhere recently that hats, scarves etc do not cause cross infestation, lice CRAWL from head to head. It was either in Nursery World or the recent PLA publication, "Children First"

Yes, it is less likely but it can happen:

"Anyone who comes in close contact (especially head-to-head contact) with someone who already has head lice is at greatest risk. Occasionally, head lice may be acquired from contact with clothing (such as hats, scarves, coats) or other personal items (such as brushes or towels) that belong to an infested person."

This is why I was concerned about the use of hats and scarfs in the Role-Play area :o .

we did remove hats from our role play when we had a particularly bad period. we dont know if it was co incidence but we did have less children with them and at the end of the month found that we had no children with 'eebie jeebies' (a child used that phrase today while discussing the combing of hair...Gran does hers!)
