What nightmare - then, also find out that the date that we will have to wait to find out who is the 20th october, date of my wedding - 21st october - what a nightmare and unrequired stress - excellent - having a bad day!! I suppose they hope that this will give everyone the opportunity of looking for something else and perhaps they then won't need to make any redundancies - but its a tough call. Really miserable for you just when you are getting married. Hoping everything will work out for you which afterall should be your happiest year. Have they told you this early in the hope that some people could apply for voluntary redundancy and take the pressure off the decision making? As Raine says, it could be a turning point for some - my (now) husband was made redundant 2 1/2 years ago, just after we had moved into our new house and as we were thinking about getting married. He decided to go self-employed and work as a contractor and now earns more than twice his leaving salary and can choose, to an extent, when he wants to move on to better his career or if he wants to change direction or specialise in a particular area of work (he is in the chemical industry) It was really anxious times, but looking back, it was the best thing that happened. I was never one to believe in silver linings to grey clouds, but have a much sunnier outlook on life as a result. Oh, and enjoy the planning for your wedding - it WILL be the best day of your life! Guest Posted June 22, 2006 Share Posted June 22, 2006 Thank you all for your kind words!!! am feeling a bit better now - focussing on the wedding!! the reason that they told up all so early is because the process takes that long!! got a very complex timetable to work through including governers and unions and they dont count the summer holidays as 'working weeks' hence we have to wait this long - and also, the head hadnt take the budget to the governers until last week - so too late for it all to be sorted by the end of term!! very annoying!! Once the initial shock and uncertaintly has died down try to focus on the wedding, as for the job what is to be will be. Having survived my husband's two redundancies in three years and his employer going into administration early this year, it is very true that as one door closes another one opens.
