Do anyone have ang songs that they use with rhythm sticks. The following ones are ones we use.

Take a stick

(Tune of sing a song of sixpence)

Begin with sticks in front of you and simply follow the words

Take a stick in this hand,

Take a stick in that.

Lay them both together,

Let them tap, tap, tap.

Tap them to the ceiling,

Tap them to the floor,

Tap them just in front of you ,

And place them on the floor.

Play and stop.

(Tune of Michael Finnigan)

Excellent for sound/silence exercises.

We’re goina play and play and play and stop.

Play and play and play and stop.

Play and play and play and stop.

Then we’ll play some more.

Repeat.

This Little train

Begin this song with a slow rhythm and increase with each verse.

This little train goes up the hill,

This little train goes up the hill,

This little train goes up the hill,

This little train goes slowly.

This little train goes along the top,

This little train goes along the top,

This little train goes along the top,

This little train goes faster.

This little train goes down the hill,

This little train goes down the hill,

This little train goes down the hill,

This little train goes faster still.

One two three ……(Train whistle sound)

Wind the bobbin.

Wind the bobbin up, wind the bobbin up,

Pull, pull, tap tap tap.

Wind it back again, wind it back again,

Pull, pull, tap tap tap.

Point to the ceiling, point to the floor,

Point to the window, Point to the door.

Tap your sticks together, one, two, three.

Put your sticks upon your knees.

Tap, Tap, Tap.

Tap, tap, tap, shhh.

(Tap and put stick to lips)

Tap, tap, tap, shhh

Who’s that knocking on the big brown door?

(Put sticks to ears)

Tap, tap, tap, shhh.

(Tap and put stick to lips)

Tap, tap, tap, shhh

There it goes once more!

Put sticks to ears)

Tap, tap, tap, shhh.

(Actions as above)

Tap, tap, tap, shhh

Who’s that knocking on the window pane?

Tap, tap, tap, shhh.

Tap, tap, tap, shhh

There it goes again!

Tap, tap, tap, shhh.

(Actions as above)

Tap, tap, tap, shhh

Now the door is open wide….

(Start with sticks together and pull them apart.)

Tap, tap, tap, shhh.

(Actions as above)

Tap, tap, tap, shhh

Won’t you step inside?

(‘Wind’ the sticks)

Pinocchio

Play them up high,

(Play sticks in the air)

Play them down low,

(Play sticks near floor)

Play them in the middle just like so.

(Play in front of you)

Play them fast,

(Play fast)

Play them very slowly

(Play slowly)

Play them in the middle just like so.

(Play in front at medium pace)

Play them loud.

(Play loudly)

Play them very quietly

(Play quietly)

Play them in the middle just like so.

(Play in front at medium volume)

One stick, Two sticks.

(put one stick on nose then the other on the end of it)

Now we’re all Pinocchios,

Now we’re all Pinocchios,

Two stcks, one stick,

(show two sticks, take off one, then the other and point to nose)

Just a nose.

Now we’re Not Pinocchios,

Now we’re Not Pinocchios,

Repeat last verse.

This is the way we softly play.

To turn of Mulberry bush

(Use the rhythm sticks to recreate the sounds as you play)

This is the way we softly play, softly play, softly play

This is the way we softly play when we’re making music.

This is the way we loudly play, ect.

This is the way we slowly play, ect.

This is the way we quickly play, ect.

Bang Bang the sticks goes bang

Bang bang the sticks goes bang.

Play them loudly as you can.

Now as quietly as a mouse,

As its creeping around the house.

We tap sticks high

We taqp sticks low

We tap again

And around we go

We wiggle our hips

And shake our sticks

To the music, music, music

Any idea where you can buy some 'rhythm sticks'?

The ones that i have seen in educational catalogues seem really expensive and ideally you'd need a set for each child in the class.

Really keen to get some - they sound GREAT!!!!!!

We do - Tap a stick in this hand

Tap a stick in that.......

It's a good simple one.

We also do - to the tune - The Wheels on the Bus

We're tapping a pattern with our sticks

With our sticks, with our sticks,

We're tapping a pattern with our sticks

While we sing

We're tapping loudly with our sticks.....

(softly, quickly, slowly, etc)

Thanks for all those Rosemarie - I'm going to add them to my list of tapping songs.

You could buy broom handles and cut them into suitable lengths, becsltd

Thanks for the other songs.

Our rhythm sticks are made from broom handles cut to size and sand papered down.

The children love using them.

Hi Rosemarie

Just wanted to say thank you for the songs you posted. I used them today and everyone joined in. They all had such a good time, they wanted to sing them to their parents when they were collected.

One little boy never joins in with these kind of activities but he had a great time; instead of us dancing around playing we sat in a semi circle and he had the confidence to join us, even our two year olds sat lovely :D

Thanks again, if you have any more i would be very interested to see them :o
