puddldeduck22
Hello all. We have been working really hard to make sure all the children's observations are up to date so that then Tapestry will generate the correct next steps for all the children. However, in Physical Development one child has one statement left to tick off from Moving & Handling to take them from 'Developing' to 'Secure' but the next steps are not producing that as a next step, in fact, it is producing next steps that have already been achieved. Am I missing something here? I have included screenshots of the next steps and the Development Matters statements.
OlayaTapestrySupport
Hi puddleduck22, Thank you so much for getting in touch with us via the forum! The Tapestry approach to observing and assessing a child focuses on the holistic development of a child, so our next steps take a broad view from the whole age band within Development Matters, and include Positive Relationships ideas and Enabling Environment suggestions. These are generated once a child has been assessed in the period you are looking at, and once a chid's summative assessment reaches the desired progression, new next steps will be generated. Please note that The Development Matters statements were not designed as a tick-list, or a set of milestones, where each child is expected to achieve them all. They are just examples of the kinds of behaviour and knowledge that children exhibit within those age bands. We really do not want to promote the process of turning them into a ticklist, which is precisely why the next steps do not display on a certain order, changing and moving down the list as statements are ticked off. So you can see exactly how the next steps have been thought of in Tapestry, I am leaving here a couple of links to some articles that you might find interesting, as well as our 'Next Steps' webinar recording: The Practicalities of Next Steps Next steps, choose wisely Using Tapestry to inform your professional judgement when setting next steps - 25th January 2018 However, if you have any further queries, doubts or comments, please do contact us on customer.service@eyfs.info and we will be happy to answer all of your questions and look into any particular cases if necessary. Best wishes, Olaya
