stranger awareness

Hi i'm looking for any resources and ideas about stranger awareness. A little boy I work with is having trouble being overly friendly to people he does not know. He regularly goes up to other parents in the setting saying 'Hi mum/dad' and sometimes try to cuddle them and even on occasions has tried to leave with them. Several of these parents have expressed their concern about this as well and are not sure themselves how to act with him. I have mentioned to his parents on several occasions about what has happened and they don't seem overly concerned and say they will talk to him about it again.

Obviously our main concern is that he may one day go up to a stranger and wander off with them.

I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas and resources that may help with this for us to use both at home and within our setting. Thanks so much for your help!

We had our PCSO come and talk to the children about 'Stranger Danger'. It was really good, the children were very attentive and all went home and talked about it with their parents. I would highly recommend it.

I would keep an eye on this behaviour ...i have had two children in the past who have been like this, both have turned out to have special needs. The most recent one has a condition called NF1 (neurofibromatosis) she got herself in trouble at school by becoming obsessed with a boy (at the age of 4!) and on holiday was 'hero' worshiping the lifeguard who helped her when she was in trouble! The other has a condition called Williams syndrome. I am NOT suggesting your little one has either of these, what I am saying is that this behaviour is unusual and may need further investigation ;)

we too had a little boy with williams-he was very friendly with everyone and anyone so we had to watch him very carefully as he would wander off to talk to anyone
