Cream of Tartar..

Hi all you fellow playdough makers.....just received an email from a supplier of cream of tartar...saying selling on ebay and amazon....£4.45 for 140 g......tesco £1.09 for 6 sachets totalling 30g....BUT..Waitrose sell in pots still....99p for 140g...and 3 for 2 until Apr 14......so jut 66p fro 140g....I have stocked up to save the perennial problem of children helping to make playdough with the main ingredient in a sachet.....Happy shopping

Thanks for the heads up at Waitrose. I contacted Dr Okter who used to do the pots and said they no longer do the pots as they were not popular (haven't met us lot then!)

Cash and carry now the best place to get it in bulk or online. But will whizz down to Waitrose this weekend to stock up... that's if there is any left ;-)

In case you ever run out, cream of tar-tar isn't totally necessary for playdough. If you don't have any it will still work but will be a bit more crumbly and might not last as long

Ah - I always thought it was used to prevent the dough from becoming too sticky :blink:

I don't think so, I think it's the oil that makes it sticky. The cream of tartar helds it to bind together and is a preservative. If it's too sticky, just keep adding flour and mixing it in fully until it's how you want it :)
