green hippo Posted October 20, 2014 Posted October 20, 2014 Hi! It's that time of year again! I actually quite enjoy it (maybe shouldn't admit that!) but sometimes am a bit unsure of how to speak to parents about the children that are slightly below expectation. Those that are significantly below seem to be easier as parents are usually aware. Many of our children that are below are summer birthdays so are only just below. What do you say? Thanks Green Hippo x
Guest Posted October 20, 2014 Posted October 20, 2014 nothing as they usually catch up quickly once they've been in nursery every day..... very few of ours are where they should be. some have had 2 terms in a pre-school! we couldn't fit them in last year due to high numbers and being morning only. so i only mention speech issues which have already been mentioned to them, and ask if they have had a hearing test if we asked them to have one to rule this out, or suggest one if we haven't. and anyone really below, but again we have been drip feeding information so they don't get a shock at parents meeting!!! if they don't start to make rapid progress i flag it up quickly before christmas. i don't want to worry parents if it's not necessary.
Wildflowers Posted October 20, 2014 Posted October 20, 2014 I would say just that - that the expectations apply for the whole group, where some children are almost a year older than others. Comparisons are not helpful. Looking at each child's own development is.
