Firework Rhyme

Recommended Posts

Can anyone provide a simple rhyme about fireworks for us to use for our rhyme of the week after our 2-week half term? [Yes, I know!!] I've looked on the Northumberland GFL site, and the American Rhyme a Week, both of which I often use, but there's nothing. Anything else I've found has been far too wordy for this age group, especially as we have the little ones in with the preschoolers.

 

I would really appreciate your suggestions. 4 - 8 lines maximum would be ideal.

Also found a rhyme on CBeebies site.

Cant help with the sounds though, you may need to practice in the bathroom mirror. :o

One huge firework

Looking rather dull and blue.

Then it went WHOOSH

And how the sparks flew!

Red and green and gold stars

Falling through the sky.

Ending eith a great big bang

And then a little ss-sigh.

 

My children like this but I don't know where I originally found it.

Thank you Rea & Deb - they both look promising!

 

Here's one I found in a Scolastic book but it's just a bit too wordy. Someone else might appreciate it though.

 

Bonfire Night

 

Whoosh go the rockets, green and gold and red,

 

Bang, bang, bang, bang, exploding overhead.

 

Fizz go the fireworks, showering the ground,

 

Whizz go the Catherine wheels, whirling round and round.

 

The roar of the fire, the crackle of the flames,

 

See the silver sparklers hissing out our names.

 

Listen to the air bombs whee into the sky.

 

The sights and sounds of Bonfire Night.

Just had this suggestion from TES Staffroom - number song to the tune of 10 green bottles.

 

Made some numeral cards to go on numberline too.

 

Picture of rocket isn't very good so if anyone has a better one could you please post it?

I've used these with my reception class.

 

Cracker Jack Crack (clap hands)

Look for the cracker behind your back(Look over each shoulder)

He jumps to and fro (Jump legs together from side to side)

He jumps to and fro

And where he is going I really don't know!

A Catherine wheel and a jumping jack

Shooting rockets see them fly

Hi,

 

Love all the rhymes. Thanks for sharing your rockets Magenta, i shall definitely use them during the week. I have attached a firework lotto game I have just made. I saw this ideas suggested in a book. Basically, you say the noises and the children tell you the sounds they can hear at the beginning, middle and end. Hope it's useful to someone. :)

Magenta, thanks for the firework rhyme. I've altered it to 5 Little Fireworks for my children as I don't think they have the patience for 10! I also had to alter the rocket pictures as the originals would not cut and paste.

 

I had intended to attach the altered rhyme to share with those of you with younger children, but the attachment would not upload, sorry. Wrong file name or something?

Magenta, thank you so much for your firework attachment. I printed it off and laminated it along with the poem and our pre-school really loved it. We were all exhausted after a week of singing it over and over, but wow, excellent learning opportunity - it flowed over into our PE activity too with the children lining up and being the rockets, or whatever kind of firework they chose. Thanks again! Keep posting such great stuff.

slightly off topic but after a bottle of red wine.... :o we watched loads of fireworks from our garden tonight with lots of sparklers ourselves, excellent fun..... :D

My cats HATE fireworks! I currently have one hiding behind the sofa & one behind a bed (the other one is on the sofa and isn't that bothered.)

Attached is my favourite-10 shiny rockets-tune five little ducks went swimming one day.Its very noisy and easily adapted to 5 shiny rockets.

Also on the document are 10 rockets for a magnet/felt board flying in different directions.Rockets in sizes for ordering.Black and white rockets for colouring.Great to use with percussion instruments with 5/10 selected children flying around ready to BANG
