Handwriting Jingles

Hiya everyone

 

i'm currently teaching letter formation (through air writing and writing in sand etc) and have found some handwriting jingles in the foundations of literacy book some of them are a bit long winded though! :o has anyone got any others as my children really enjoyed using them!!

they are sort of poems that you say while forming letters for example for t you coud say "take it from the top, slide it to the ground and flick. And cross it quick!" (from foundations of literacy)

Thanks SmileyPR - that's a really simple, easy to follow script that will ensure support staff are giving the same instructions. I'm going to stick it on a cupboard door and have a copy with any 'handwriting type' activities.

Sue, this is what it says: -

 

Handwriting wording

 

a- Over the top, all the way round and down.

b- Top to bottom, up half way and all the way round.

c- Over the top and round

d- Over the top, all the way round, up the stick and down, flick.

e- Across, over the top and round

f- Over, down to the bottom, under the line and hook.

g- Over the top, all the way round, down, under the line and hook.

h- Top to bottom, half way up and over and flick.

i- Down, round stop. Pencil off, dot at the top.

j- Down, under the line, hook, pencil off, and dot the top.

k- Top to bottom, half way up, over the top, kick and flick.

l- Top to bottom and flick.

m- Down, up over, up and over, flick.

n- Down, up and over and flick.

o- Over the top and all the way round with joining line.

p- Down, under the line, up the stick and all the way round.

q- Over the top, all the way round, down under the line and flick.

r- Down, up and over.

s- Over the top and curl like a snake.

t- Down, round, stop, pencil off, across.

u- Down, under, up and down.

v- Down the hill, up the hill, joining line.

w- Down the hill, up the hill, down the hill up the hill, joining line.

x- Down the hill, pencil off, down the hill again.

y- Down, under, up, down, under the line and hook.

z- Across, down the hill, across.

The jingle is not mine. I don't recall where I got it from. It is a pity because I would prefer to give credit to who created it.
