Basic book on Child Development

Not really a work question but a family member asked me for some recommendations on basic books for child development (I quote here 'one for dummies'!!) all the ones I have are for practitioners, training/courses or linked to practice and too in-depth I think for what she wants.

 

Does anyone have any ideas on some good ones?

I use this as my reference book for trainings etc. It's a classic text but very accessible.

I was going to suggest the Mary Sheridan one too. It's quite 'old school' and makes no links to curriculum/ EYFS but is an absolute classic and suitable for beginners.

I was going to suggest Carolyn Meggit - its very easy to dip into, comes with a dvd. Has a little theory at the back but very accessible. FF

I love this book and parents have borrowed it a few times over the years not so much on development but how to support your child
