Now been on the hpa site and states that there is no exclusion period!! Should I exclude or allow children to still attend playgroup as long as they are well enough??? finleysmaid
highly infectious ...and can be passed on to adults too. We exclude until the high temperature and blisters have gone down. We also stop water and sand play and throw the sand out.
Guest
When my little boy had it our doctor advised that the incubation period was 3-5 days BEFORE the ulcers/spots appeared and that he could still attend school, the school confirmed they were happy to take him as long as he was not unwell in himself. The ulcers in his mouth were very sore, so he did have a couple of days off. But he would not have been excluded.
lynned55
How funny, I have just been told today that one of our childrens siblings has it. Been told much the same really, most infectious before anything comes out. I haven't actually seen nay cases of this for a long time, years in fact. Am I right in thinking that the skin on palms of the hand peel, or am I thinking of something else?

Ones in mouth look like ulcers after a few days and the ones on hands and feet look like small blisters. Also run high temps and loss of appetites. Spoke to local sure start teacher who said to exclude until all symptoms had disappeared.
