Lol Is Now Officially A Word!

"OMG! LOL's in the OED. LMAO!"

Alternatively....Golly gosh! The popular initialism LOL (laughing out loud) has been inducted into the canon of the English language, the Oxford English Dictionary. Blimey! What is going on?

Why did LOL infiltrate the language?

Good to see the Oxford English Dictionary keeping up with the times me thinks....or is this the thin edge of the wedge???

I knew a friend who used 'lol' to mean 'lots of love'. It puzzled me for a long time because she'd put it on the end of emails even when the subject matter wasn't anything to laugh about really. :o
