Does anyone have any bright ideas for a Christmas card which will allow children's "creativity" and still look good to send home?

Welcome to the forum, hedgi.

I would say that if you provide interesting resources that children will enjoy using, then any card they make using their own creative and design ideas will look good to send home. :o

How about letting them loose with glitter, christmassy coloured paint, sparkly card etc, then when they've covered the page let them choose from a pre-cut-by-you christmassy template (star, tree, bell etc) cut from black card and stick this over the top so that their artistic effort shows thru the hole. Anything looks great with a frame round it, just that in the case the frame would be shaped instead of square.

I quite agree, go mad with the glitter! however, if you narrow it down so there is only one choice of colour and then have a shape that is easy to fill in, you'll end up with a design. We drew a christmas stocking shape on the front of ours last year with thick black pen (red card). then the children added cotton wool at the top and glitte all over. Printed out a greeting peom and the children drew inside (and some managed to write their name). They were lovely.

Spiral.
