Improving Thinking Skills

 Share

Recommended Posts

Hi all

As a school we have identified that we need to help improve children's thinking and communication skills.

We already do a lot of pair talk, talk for writing, Rtime, P4C.

Does anyone else do other things that would help address this issue, across the Whole school or just in one particular year group?

I've found open ended thinking activities great - for instance, give groups a paperclip and set a time limit. Get them to come up with 'at least ten and preferably 20' uses for a paperclip.

Also, the 'provocation' - we stuck a toy cat in a tree when we were doing an animal rescue theme. How could they rescue it? Unusual challenges.

Tony Buzan and Edward de Bono are both good on this kind of stuff.
