Guest
hi there, I have a question regarding maths planning....do you plan to teach a different strand of maths every week ie one week is pattern recreation, the next is shape work or do you vary the maths according to what fits your topic ie on Tuesday look at pattern recreating and then on Thursday look at recognising 2D shapes. I usually do a strand of maths per week and relate it to my topic wherever possible but i am curious to know how others do it. Many thanks! Rufus
I also tend to do a strand of maths per week, linking into the topic where possible. I don't have a set order for this as some schools do. One of our teachers follows an abacus MTP so that she ensures coverage. I tend to teach the strands according to the chidlrens needs.
Froglet
Pretty much a strand per week. I have Y1s in my class too so the reception maths usually ties into one of the Y1 topics. If I can theme the maths activity itself (e.g. we make beach hut pictures using shapes when my topic was seaside last year) I can but it doesn't often happen.
