Guest
Hi, A member of our small staff team has just started her EYPS course (short pathway). She has so many things she wants to talk to me about and as I am the Leader she will obviously need to negotiate with me any projects etc. she needs to do in the setting or leading of inputs etc. We don't have any time to talk during opening hours so these converstaions will need to take place out of hours. Does anyone else have any experience of mentoring a staff member through this course and how many hours time you need to put aside for it? Thanks. hali
if shes on the short pathway i would say give her as much time as you can - as time goes very quickly
Helen
Would emailing each other work? At least you could do this from your home environment and not have to organise too many after hours meetings.
eyfs1966
Does this person have any leadership or management experience within your setting yet? If yes, then she should really be pretty much able to go it alone...if not, then I would suggest that she would be better to take the longer course option. I was eligible for the short course and had the relevant levels of experience, but was persuaded to take the longer course as the funding was better for the setting (£4000 instead of I think £1000) and was very glad that I did. It gave me much more time to get my head around the standards, and ensure that I had sufficient quality documents for my folder. It also meant that I could plan and prepare for my written tasks, ensuring that I was going to cover the standards in sufficent detail. Don't know if this helps at all.....
