Guest Posted January 24, 2010 Share Posted January 24, 2010 Due to an unfortunate event at another setting locally I might be looking at expansion as parents scrabble for a place for their child. We have already decided that our first priority is our current children and families, with the close second being our staff. Then comes the children who are being displaced and their families, the oldest ones first. We have some spare capacity in our current set up and have negotiated a theoretical extension to our hours so we could run some afternoon sessions. My to do list for this week includes checking with Ofsted and the insurance company that we are within our current registration and cover to do what we plan, and I have a person in mind to provide immediate extra staffing (CRB, etc all covered there). As some of the children will be starting school in September I have spoken with the LA about the detrimental effect on them moving to us and then moving back again if their current setting were to reopen, and the LA reassured me that I was within my rights to insist parents keep their child with us until the summer for the sakes of the children. I am planning a written agreement in which the parents will agree to keep their child and funding with us or will pay compensation at the same rate as the funding, hoping that the financial penalty will stop them moving. So for anyone else who can either see the wood for the trees or who has been there, done that is there anything I've forgotten? Thanks. Message I got was what a wonderful opportunity for expansion - no we have no funds to support you - go away and help them out!
