Students Placement

Hi everybody,

Can you please let me know if I am allowed to count our student who is on placement in our ratios.

We are a new setting and finances are a bit tight!!!

She attends the nursery 2 afternoons a week.

Thanks

Duggy

Hi, if the student is on a long term placement, over 17 and you are satisfied that they are competent then they can be included in the ratio's. This is in the guidance to the standards of the EYFS.

From an assessors point of view; in order for a student to receive the most from their placement and to genuinely satisfy the performance criteria, they should be included in every possible aspect that their level entails, or there's no point in them being there really is there.

From a supervisors point of view.... if you have too many bodies and not enough to do you cause yourself more work/stress and they learn to stand around looking bored.

If you satisfy the EYFS then theres no reason not to.

We have included students in the ratios, but as said they were over 17 and on long term placement, and were only included after being with us a period of time for us to assess their competence, which was usually 6 weeks.

Usually they were placed with us for a year for us to think about including them , we did not include the student who were with us for the 12 /13 week placements.
