Upsy Daisy Posted September 13, 2009 Posted September 13, 2009 (edited) Ok Narnia, I'm clearly in need of some enlightenment. What is a personal statement and what do you use if for. I haven't been asked for anything like that so far but I'm just at the end of the first year of my Foundation Degree. Edited September 13, 2009 by Upsy Daisy
narnia Posted September 13, 2009 Author Posted September 13, 2009 Didn't you have to write one before you started the course? it's the bit about why you want to do it, ect?
Upsy Daisy Posted September 13, 2009 Posted September 13, 2009 No. It's probably a good job too! I would probably have run a mile at that stage. It was a very 'spur of the moment' decision to even be on the course in the first place.

narnia Posted September 13, 2009 Author Posted September 13, 2009 thankyou for that...........................my poor, lonely, single grey cell has been well and truly shiggled!!
Upsy Daisy Posted September 13, 2009 Posted September 13, 2009 Thankyou for sharing that, lalaloulou. I would have been quite intimidated by having to put someting like that together before my course even started. I have, of course, since had lots of practice in reflecting on my strengths/areas for development/targets for future learning so I am getting better at it.... slowly..... At least I will have an idea of what it is if I am asked to provide a personal statement in the future. Cheers
HappyMaz Posted September 13, 2009 Posted September 13, 2009 I don't remember having to write a personal statement either for my Foundation Degree/BA/EYPS (although hali may well put me right on that one). However I did years ago when I started my FE teaching training. It was quite strange at the time and now that I'm contemplating applying for a Masters course I'll have to write one as part of that process. Never was one for singing my own praises... Maz
Guest Posted September 14, 2009 Posted September 14, 2009 I had to do one and can't find it to show...sorry...but basically it was saying how proud I was of my life achievements without showing off! It wasn't very long! Also I had to say why I wanted to do the course.....sort of a mix of academic and personal stuff to make you sound like the perfect candidate...which we all know Narnia you are anyway..
Upsy Daisy Posted September 16, 2009 Posted September 16, 2009 now that I'm contemplating applying for a Masters course I'll have to write one as part of that process. Maz Ooooh! Still thinking about it then....
Guest Posted September 16, 2009 Posted September 16, 2009 Do it Maz......I think I will...maybe next year?
