Hiya all

can anyone tell me how to go about or where to find a part time or distance learning course on how to become a teaching assistant, either with special needs or main stream.

Am just finishing my NVQ3 Diploma in pre-school practice with NEC, working in a private school, mainly with pre-school but also helping with Yr 1 and Yr 2, Yr 1's with special needs and really enjoying it.

Was going to do Foundation Degree and then go onto Uni to do year top up, but couldnt afford it at the moment.

Any suggestions and advice welcome.

Hi amanda, I was always under the impression that level 3 was enough to be a classroom assistant. I know there are different names such as teaching assistant, classroom assistant, support assistant, but I'm not sure of the different roles. I did the DPP and was told by the head of our local primary that it he would take it as a suitable qualification. Congratulations on getting to the end of it, late nights will be a thing of the past now! :D

:o Thanks everyone - I can't wait till I've sent the final assignment in to my tutor, distance learning is hard, but have had invaluable help from my friends and co-workers. Have got some brilliant ideas off this web site, thanks to you all.

Am moving to Ireland late next year, so hope my qualifications will mean the same in Southern Ireland.
