Has anyone any ideas on where to find the theory about developing muscles in the arms, wrist etc to support children in developing thier writing. I have to produce a document about supporting writing and thought this would link in nicely.

Books, websites ?????????????????????

If you look up the theory behind "write dance" it should help you.

Write Dance in the Nursery: A Pre-Writing Programme for Children 3 to 5

Write Dance is an innovative and exciting programme, widely used as a way of introducing handwriting using music, movement and exercise. It is especially helpful for children with special educational needs, from learning difficulties to dyspraxia.

In Write Dance in the Nursery, early years practitioners are provided with a package of songs, stories and role-play ideas designed especially for their settings. Supporting child-initiated play within the EYFS framework, these provide an introduction to the nine themes in Write Dance approach at an appropriate developmental level.

The Write Dance Movements provide the children with a strong foundation for writing, and help them to feel happy and comfortable with their bodies, and this book and CD resource provides everything the early years practitioner needs to implement this exciting approach.

Ragnhild A. Oussoren worked for many years as a consultant graphologist in the Netherlands and in Sweden. Mixing her graphology skills with art and music, in the 90s she developed a completely new writing and movement method for all children aged 3-12 years irrespective of their movement skills. The Write Dance method has been so successful that it is practised in six languages and in many countries. Ragnhild is her own publisher in the Netherlands; she gives workshops in different countries and continues to develop the method. worked for many years as a consultant graphologist in the Netherlands and in Sweden. Perhaps googling her might help.
