Guest
Hello everyone. I LOVE this forum by the way. Anyway, at the moment my Nursery class (attached to a school) is becoming over subscribed. I need to think of a way to make it easier. The problem is that we have put two age groups together-rising 3s and 3-4s who will go into reception in September. Currently we are considering dividing up these two age groups into separate classes-however Im not sure what would happen in September-wouldnt they all be the same age?? Bit confused....Any ideas or what you have at your setings? xx
Guest
Hi there Hannah29 I have just been reading about vertical grouping, especially for families with siblings in different classes which are divided by age. Would you be able to work with two groups, but divided vertically? How would that work with your setting? That way, the different levels of development of the children could still be catered for and the older ones helping the younger ones, but the group sizes would be more manageable. Good luck! Cait
That sounds like a sensible suggestion. We have something similar in colour groups, with children divided into vertical groupings (we just went down the register initially a few years back, eeeny meeny miney mo style) and this works really well. Our Key groups are divided by age though. Children don't get confused, the little ones just accept it and the older ones understand it - if you know what I mean.
