sharonash
Its been suggested to us that we have a parents group, bit like school PTA. Anyone do this ?/ if so could you share some ideas or suggestions where to start. I persume they would organise fundraisng events, parents social evenings etc, am I on the right track? Cait
Yes, we have a parent's committee. As you say, they organise events like trips and fundraisers. We approach a Parent who we think would make a good Chair - someone who has a 'voice' who parents will listen to and who isn't shy about talking in front of others, also someone who has some gumption about confidentiality is useful! We ask if they'd like the role and explain what it will involve. Call a meeting of parents and then elect someone to take notes at the meeting, and other folk to take on the other jobs. One of us usually sits in at these meetings 'to answer queries' (in other words, make sure they don't try and bite off more than they can chew!) but other than that we let them 'fire away'
