School Trip Linked To Topic Food

Hi, just wondered if anyone has any exciting ideas, of any school trips, for early years based on the topic of food? Please do not say a supermarket! I want to find alternatives. it is for the North west.

Has your area got a food speciality, in kent we have Hop farms (not quite food) and once our preschool visited a local bakery which made flapjacks, cakes, biscuits etc, a great visit seeing how foods were made in large quantities, with some delicious freebies too.

We visited a local Chinese restaturant and it was fab! And if it's next term, you could tie it in with Chinese New Year?

Some of our past and current parents have allotments which we visit and 'help' with while we're there. We come back and have enthusiastic planting sessions for a few days, the children take some home and we keep some at work for children to care for and observe.

WE are very lucky to be next to some allotments. It amazes the children that fruit and veg come from the ground and not Tescos! We have some friendly people on the allotment who talk to the children and its great to visit in each season- and at no cost!

we have tried many of Peggys suggestions.. but these days have been told sorry.. not possible.. H&S issues!

 

Shop visit Ok but not to 'back stage' which is often what we would like...

Pizza express let you take small groups of children to their restaurants. They make pizza with the chidlrne and then you can stay and eat it.

We have taken our children to the market to buy fruit and veg. They love it! We have also been to a bakers, they all bought a bun.
