Guest Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, special in our family as my mum is recovering after her second case of breast cancer. This time she had to have a mastectomy and radiotherapy and has since developed ME but at the moment is clear of cancer. Please check your breasts and get to know what they are like. It is a horrible thing and affects so many people. Just take a moment of your time to stop and think Quote
Sue R Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 Thanks Nich - I do try!! Mammogram on Wednesday - will share results Sue Quote
HappyMaz Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 I try too, Sue. I think they should have breast self-examination classes because I'm not sure I'm even doing it right. Perhaps I should do some research? Maz Quote

Gezabel Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 I am told that it is really important to do self examination properly. I have been 'taught' as a result of my scare a while ago. For anyone who is unsure how to do self examination here is a link to the breast cancer website and it has pictures and instructions for self examination - hope it helps http://www.breastcancer.org/symptoms/testi...m/bse_steps.jsp Quote
HappyMaz Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 Thanks for this Geraldine: its very useful to see the pictures as well as the explanation! Maz Quote
narnia Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 good girls....and boys................................check them properly, check them regularly, go for those mammograms and take care of yourselves.Yes a mammogram is a little uncomfortable, but a few seconds discomfort should be able to put your minds at rest. and you needn't check them by yourselves.....enlist a 'willing helper' if need be (purely for research purposes.....a second opinion is always a good idea!)
