luluj Posted January 26, 2008 Posted January 26, 2008 Our feeder playschool is having an 'open afternoon' for the first time and feel a bit unsure about what kind of format it might take. Does anyone have any suggestions that I might be able to pass onto them? They've had a bit of a knock back with a recent Ofsted (paperwork issues) and it would be lovely for them to have a successful 'first time' venture to restore a bit of self esteem. Many thanks for any help you may be able to offer. luluj Quote
hali Posted January 26, 2008 Posted January 26, 2008 when we do open afternoons we usually do a small presentation eg cirriculum, policies, what play means etc then have childrens diplays up, tea/coffees and staff/committeee around to chat too. Quote
Rea Posted January 26, 2008 Posted January 26, 2008 Are they opening for anyone to visit or just a day for the families of children already attending? If its to anyone in the community they will need to think about security and safety with people coming and going. If its only to children already attending, display a bit about the FS and BTT and the EYFS, show the planning, put some cards near each activity which show the learning available. Let them make dough, paint on easles, collage, junk modeling, make the usual things available, bricks, books, sand etc. The staff need to be on hand to chat and provided information. Have photos of the children playing, with an outline of what they are learning at the activity. Put some post-its near the door so they can make a brief comment on things they liked, ideas for future events, general comments about the day. If refreshments are provided, have a pot for 'donations', we made far more asking for a donation than when we charged 20p a cup! Quote
