Guest Posted January 24, 2008 Posted January 24, 2008 Hi out there its a while since i got in contact but i love reading all the post and some have been realy helpfull and some have made me laugh. I am hopeing some one can help me with my memory. We use to sing a song that starts like this. Jack in a box still as a mouse deep down inside your little dark house. ?????? and thats all we can remember. Also dingle dangle scarecrow.Any one know that one. It must be old age and dry rot , because the memory dont work to good these days. I would be glad for any help and so would the children. Pat
Guest Posted January 24, 2008 Posted January 24, 2008 Never heard the first one but the second one, the way we sing it is: When all the cows were sleeping and the sun had gone to bed up jumped the scarecrow and this is what he said I'm a dingle dangle scarecrow with a flippy floppy hat I can shake my hands like this I can shake my hands like that! Actually, there might be a second verse now I come to think about it. Maybe someone else will add it! Its always fun to see the regional variations that occur when someone asks a question like this!
Guest Posted January 24, 2008 Posted January 24, 2008 Hi..can help with the scarecrow but not the other... when all the cows were sleeping and the sun had gone to bed Up jumped the scarecrow and this is what he said.... I'm a dingle dangle scarecrow with a flippy floppy hat I can shake my hands like this and shake my feet like that. When all the hens were roosting and the moon behind a cloud Up jumped the scarecrow and shouted very loud I'm a dingle dangle scarecrow etc......
HappyMaz Posted January 24, 2008 Posted January 24, 2008 I have no idea what the first one is, but I'm fairly certain the words of dingle dangle scarecrow and his flippy floppy hat have been discussed before. Have you tried searching the forum posts? Maz

Susan Posted January 24, 2008 Posted January 24, 2008 Hi zazo, I must be as old as you are then! I do remember a song about a jack in the box and know that jack is crouching down and jumps up as the lid is lifted but the exact words escape me too at the moment! May be in "My little Puffin"?
Guest Posted January 24, 2008 Posted January 24, 2008 Ha Anita - had to chuckle when I saw LJW beat me to it too! Ialso vaguely remember the Jack in the box but not all the words Just checked the little puffin with the yellow cover - not in there That'll really annoy me now !
Guest Posted January 24, 2008 Posted January 24, 2008 Just done a google search and found this. Jack in the box, still as a mouse Deep down inside your little dark house. Jack in the box resting so still, won't you come out? {pop} yes I will. Hope this is the one, Anita
Annie-pops Posted January 24, 2008 Posted January 24, 2008 Not sure if this is the Jack in the box one you want but it may be useful anyway Jack in the box jumps up like this He makes me laugh as he waggles his head I gently press him down again saying, Jack in the box you must go to bed! - This can be accompanied by appropriate actions (eg. curling up small then "be-doinging" up"!!)

Guest Posted January 24, 2008 Posted January 24, 2008 YEP Janine That's the one.Still sing that.Your voice gets progressively quieter as you sing and sink into the box then you jump up and shout the 'YES I WILL" and frighten yourself and others!!! Kids think its hilarious everytime-however many times you do it!
Inge Posted January 25, 2008 Posted January 25, 2008 (edited) Another verse for the scarecrow When the dogs were in the kennels And the doves were in the loft Up jumped the scarecrow And whispered very soft I'm a dingle, dangle scarecrow With a flippy floppy hat I can shake my hands like this And shake my feet like that Inge Edited January 25, 2008 by Inge
Guest Posted January 25, 2008 Posted January 25, 2008 We have a winter variation on the scarecrow rhyme: When all the snow had fallen And the children were in bed, Up jumped the snowman And this is what he said: I’m a dingle dangle snowman With a flippy floppy hat. I can shake my head like this And shake my hands like that Deb W
Guest Posted January 25, 2008 Posted January 25, 2008 A seasonal variation to the scarecrow: When everyone was sleeping and the moon had gone to bed…. Up jumped the Christmas elves and this is what they said…. I’m a dingle dangle Christmas elf with a flippy floppy hat, I can shake my hands like this, and shake my feet like that! Has all the children in complete hysterics!
