Children who are in a mixed age session should they be 2.5? I was asked the other day and I thought that children who are in with3/4 yr olds should be 2.5, this person told me it was not 2.5 but 2?? :o

I don't know to be honest, but I have worked in mixed age settings with both 2 and 2 and a half year olds, so I would assume that there isn't a right or wrong age?? Not 100% sure though!

Hi - who said that? What were they looking at? We have babies in with Pre-school at the start of the day - obviously, not freely!!

Surely a mixed age session is exactly that!!? Please come back with more information, we may then be able to help more?

Sue :)

I'm registered for 52 with know more than 26 being under 3. so I can have up to 26 2.5 years in with my 3/4 year olds. We do have times when they are separate like drinks toilet circle times, but general play part they are together. the older ones loo after the little ones.
Does your wording on your registration tell you anything.
Grand children are now 7, 4, 3. Time flies

We are in a portacabin and are registered to take from 2 years old.
We do not have any 2 year olds on our books as we try to take them at 2 1/2 years old, due to the fact they will be in the same room as the older children.

I think OFSTED only issue registrations from 2 years rather than 2.5 now. We used to stick very strictly to 2.5 years, but when this change came in we found we were losing most of our waiting list to other settings taking them from 2, so we've loosened up a little. We just think very carefully about the ratio for under 3s in any context, but that isn't any different whether they are 2 or 2.5.

I am registered to take 26 children between the age of 2 years to under 5. We are all in the same room. It was the Ofsted inspector that pointed out that I can take younger children.I could have 26 children age 2 if i wanted but i would need 7 staff members.
