A friend of mine suggested fatbrain website as they got some money back. Never heard of them.

Looked at eBay it sounds complicated and expensive with posting with being on benefits as a carer.

I have about 50 to 60 textbooks I no longer need as I am changing careers. Anyone have any ideas to the best way of getting rid of them? Most of them are around 4 to 11 years old.
I need to make room ready for any new ones and my masters pre registration nursing degree folders/paperwork. I know there's only 21 weeks until it starts, passed the APL document. So it's a waiting game for the health questionnaire. I'm getting the study organised ready to start with a clean slate.
Thanks in advance.

I am just off to chat room.

I know the feeling. Been watching equestrian on the Internet and I guess synchro swimming next week on there. These are the only two sports that I am interested in, the rest can get lost. Itv is just has bad with silly repeats.

Last night had to drive through a hail storm which was fun! Ment to snow overnight, glad I'm not working.

I know this is a very old thread. I can't believe it's 5 years since the last post. However 5 years later this right ear has reared its ugly head, had an infection for the past month and down to that dreaded one hearing aid. Seeing a new ear consultant (30 years one retired at xmas) next Friday to find out what's happening. Let's hope it's not round 2 after 5 years of stability.

Awww cute.

About an inch of snow here. Nearly alway snows the week I've to take the car for its MOT and service. And to make it more fun I've to be at Uni at 8:45 am on weds. Usually 20 mins by car in normal weather.
No more snow please. ?

Update:
College is going ok. Grades could be better and hopefully will be once I fully start my 1:1 tuition with a specialist dyslexia tutor. I also applied to uni for adult nursing and today I have been offered an interview! So pleased, with a little dilemma as I was sacked from a job with a fictitious story just to get rid of me. Now not sure of all the details as it was years ago. I'm stuck on what date it happened and full details about it.
Work wise, well after months of the horrid noisy classroom and daily headaches/migraines. I've finally handed in my notice. I have no job to go to. I don't care right now as I'm feeling ill from the experience.

Well Beth. If there's anyone I know who can adapt to change, its you!
Good luck with your new challenges - I'm sure you'll get there!

Thanks Maz. Although I'm struggling to adapt to an echoey classroom at the moment, my head hurts from constant headaches. Not a nice feeling, had no problems in the last class. But I'm on the case to change it, even if it means having to come out of working with children and work in a supermarket or something.

Fab plans jester hope it works out for you.
For the umpteenth time this term I've come home with yet another headache which is a migraine. Just what I need when I've got college work to do. Time to stick a grievance in. Looking for any part time job in a bid to have a job away from my current job.

Beth, I'm so sorry I haven't been on for ages so I missed your post. How are you getting on?
I went an did a prelim maths course and it was awful, the tutor was one I encountered about 8 years ago and I left because I found him difficult to work with. It made me feel like rubbish and I have decided that I can't face doing it just now, I have been informed that I will be re statemented and will have LSA support as and when I choose to do it again (I have dyscalculia) Also due to rather chaotic goings on I was quite unwell in late August and early September so it was probably a good job I didn't start a new job or a course!
I have just done my second voluntary session at the school in one of the reception classes and I loved it, They seem to be happy I was there and I was complimented on my get on and do attitude (well of course, you can't really sit back in reception can you?)
I was hoping to get involved in the Forest School groups due to start in school but the newly appointed leader has left suddenly so that's not happening now sadly, on suggestion of one of the teachers I did email the head about running outdoor learning sessions myself while training to level 3 but I have not heard back yet so I guess they want someone with level 3 straight off (I am currently working with a FS group with a friend on a voluntary basis so I know what I am doing but I know I need to do further training to become a leader but like anything it comes down to cost!)
So I'm feeling a little flat now, I'm not sure what to do, I want to work more and I want to train further. I have been offered further training in retail but IM not sure because it's not ultimately what I want to do but I feel I need to make a decision soon.
I'm still in the same job that which my health is suffering badly. I'm trying to find any job that will fit around the access course, study and ballet.
I'm loving the access course, however I've found out I can't do speech and language due to my type of hearing impairment. So I'm off to investigate nursing but with adults because I can't understand pre school children for children's nursing.
Hope you find your pathway soon.

This challenge is starting to go somewhere. Unfortunately due to my high frequency deafness I am unable to become a speech and language therapist. I'm a little disappointed but there's been suggested to do nursing but with adults, as I can no longer understand what preschool children are saying to me.
So I'm off to explore the world of an adult nurse. However I can be a health visitor from adult nursing. Talk about changing careers completely. Sometimes we have to adapt to our needs.

I said I want a new challenge, boy do I have one! Why are research topic ideas so hard? This time the research topic has to be from a health and social aspect, my brain keeps saying education. I can link into an education.
Once I have decided one one, I hope this forum will be kind to me to help me out with the primary research.
Is it summer 2016 yet?
Only joking!

Thanks, in a few weeks I will know where I'm going. Rea I often wonder what the old gang is doing.

Well after doing one degree, then deciding teaching is not for me and getting no jobs in education. I decided it was time to make changes. Last week I started an access diploma to HE in health course. I am hopefully planning to become a speech and language therapist with child nursing as a back up.
I still have a few open days to attend before I decide what to do.
I have also change sites at work and no longer doing a lot of speech language phonic type interventions that I've done for the past 2 years. I'm doing less intervention, little bit of small groups but mainly sitting and sorting resources out. It's a tad boring and now relates more to nursing than the therapist degree. So I'm feeling confused but planning on escaping my current job this academic year. 10 years ago I applied to do child nursing but got rejected.
Looking forward to seeing what the future brings!!!

We have a lot of double barrelled names 3 Maisie -Lea in various formats. One who can't decided between Reily -Jack or Reily. I can't remember first names let alone their barrelled name. Last years group got shortened to first names only, think parents thought we where too confused with so many similar names.

Went back last Friday for INSET day. Children started yesterday. I've moved sites but still in same year group.
The classroom acoustics are terrible, very echoey leading to me having a headache and earache by home time. Couldn't hear the children talk that were in front of me. Not a good room for a person with hearing problems to be in.
However don't want to go back up as it would be with the class teacher I spent the first 3 years with. So I may need a short term back up plan, as I am back at college next week to retrain in a different role still working with children.
Anyway let's see what today brings, hope it's not a repeat of yesterday.

Thanks, let a couple of staff aware. So will see what happens. One person said to keep a record of any issues ie parking and shouting, then something can be done about it.

I have a rude inconsiderate neighour that has a child at the setting where I work, I thought the child was due to move up to secondary this year but isn't the case. I had been working at the opposite site but as of tomorrow I will be at the same site as the child but in a different key stage.
Today we have had a 'set to' with them. We asked them nicely to move the van that was blocking our access to the drive (couldn't get back on or even off if we were to leave). Yes they did move it after being asked twice no one answered first time, however he (stepdad) came along and started to shout and argued at us. This isn't the first time he has come along and argued with us over the parking issue.
Given the situation, I am hoping the child's mother or granddad doesn't come and find me in my classroom to start an argument. They know I work at the school as mum/granddad has seen me at that site.
I am not sure what to do about it, like go see the head and let them know the situation in case anything happens or just leave it? I'm stressing out about going back (separate issue) without the rude neighbour issue too.

Jester, I've asked for feedback and I'm waiting for it via email. I have a sneaking suspicion they didn't want to give me any. I've a place on the access course in September. And yes there's always 1:1 jobs to look out for but will be specifically looking for speech, language and communication needs support posts.

Update on interviews. It was a no to the job interview. Lack of experience cited, said others had longer experience/see full school day. I'm starting to think it's an excuse.
Access interview was more a presentation of the course, waiting to see if I've a place on the evening session. Would end up staying put, but look for a job that's part time to fit in with the course. Off to be a speech and language therapist hopefully.

What to do with a load of old textbooks
