Just want to say good luck Im sure it will be fine. Last inspection was in January but previous one was first week in October and they looked more at meeting the childrens needs and what we had in place to support the new intake I think now with transition being such a big thing it will be even more of a priority

Hi
I just wondered how long it is between ofsted inspections. We had our last one in feb 04, we are still waiting, i'm sure they must be due. Since last inspection we have had a change of manager a yr and a half ago plus we had 3 actions plans on last inspection, i took over just after their last inspection, so i'm hoping i have addressed all the issues but i just wondered How long have others gone between inspections.
We had our last inspection in January2006 but the previous inspection was October 1999 ............. over 6 years

Slightly off track...............our SEN teacher has just tested Y1 on a 'reading test' (not Salford which we use in school) One child I scored 5 on the FSP in reading has come out with a reading age of 12.9 years (chronological age 5.7) he has excellent decoding skills but no understanding

Last year we changed to the PiPs order of teaching sounds but used JP as the main teaching 'method' this year I have found I am using very little JP (only retaining the actions to provide the multi sensory aspect) We are still doing 5 sounds a week although in a very informal way at the moment (no handwriting /sound sheets) Probably half the class know the majority of sounds taught so far but as you say the other half are just not ready.
We are also using Foundations of Literacy as a basis for our literacy teaching so lots of stories lots of rhymes lots of songs lots of keeping the beat lots of opportunities for speaking and listening.

We normally cook on Tuesdays (not sure why) but it was delayed because of Misoshi
Today 12 of the children prepared broth peeling and chopping the vegetables adding all the ingredients from the recipe measuring the correct amount of stock and cooking it for the unit. Another group made bread rolls to eat with the broth

not really Montessori believed that children should be able to understand reality before being offered fantasy we use dressing frames instead of dressing up. i do see a lot of imaginative play on a day to day basis within our room with the materials and i do believe that the children benefit greatly from this, but as far as dolls, home corners and role play areas are concerned we do not have these!
Much of role play is about 'reality' and allowing the children to explore it to make sense of their environment and lives. We dont have a home corner and seldom use dolls or 'dressing up' either.

Were your symptoms similar??? I only had the one reaction but it did make sense, I was one of those people who never wore sunblock and also spent 6 months in portugal (20 yrs ago) out in the sun everyday. I still love the sun but use sun block like it is a second skin.
Would you administer anti-histermine to the girl in your school??
I think anti-histermine will be as common as asthma inhalers within the next decade.
Peggy
Yes initially had breathing problems also exposed areas swell up. I lived in the states for some time in my teens and lived in shorts and a t shirt.
I would only administer anti histamines with written parental consent which we require for all medicines including inhalers.

We cook with 2 groups of children a week (one morning session one afternoon) and ensure all children have the opportunity to cook each half term. This allows the children to prepare and share food for the others in the unit and to report to the other children what they made the ingredients and how they made it so encourages speaking and listening skills. Its much less stressful than trying to get 80 children to cook twice a week

We were quoted a similar price (cant recall the 3 companies who quoted off hand would have to check) but we were advised by our LA outdoor advisory not to have 'safe surfacing' put down as there is a movement to remove it in favour of ordinary surfaces. We were also advised against wood /bark as it attracts cats who see it as a toilet.
Found this in my email folder

Hopefully tomorrow I will have the photographs and the children's comments.
Misoshi started the day with a whole school assembly to introduce herself to the children and as she pointed out many of our children have no experience of people from other cultures. She talked about her origins and asked the children to clap out the syllables in her name in Africa and in Ghana(very rhythmic with everyone moving and dancing) The she demonstarted her clothes to the children and with the help of one of our smallest nursery children she showed how a Ghanaian mother would carry her child (hands free) with the help of her clothes.
In the Unit she told stories that had alot of actions related to the characters/events which we all joined in. This was turned into a dance with the addition of music. We then clapped and drummed the syllables in the character names. The children (even one boy who started nursery for the first time today ) were totally engrosed.
Later the children used Ghanaian wood blocks to print their own 'African' material which we hope to display in the unit.
The children asked lots of questions and were eager to share the information with their parents at the end of the day.
