Hi all
Just a quick update for you all.
I managed to get to 33 weeks and 3 days... on 30the September 2009... my perfect little boys were born.
I can't believe that they are now over a week old.
Zachary 2lb 81/2oz
Clement 3lb 101/2oz
Charles 4lb 2oz
All three are in special care but are doing well.
Will add pictures soon... but only got home last night.

We tended to do one focus guided write every 2 to 3 weeks... but not until the late Spring Term or early summer term as the children are able to use their phonics confidently etc.
Other writing we would do would include writing speech bubbles as a class for story characters and picture books...modelling writing to the children.

I also can't belive I am now 32 weeks- which is average gestation for triplets- I am very uncomfortable but pleased I have lasted this long. I see the consultant this week so will hopefully know more then. Will keep you all informed.

We have made portfolios showing the children's work, photos, captions, planning etc for the last three or so years. They look fab when they are done but take an awful lot of time to complete... last year I started to send them home with parents and they were well recieved. We used A3 style books.

We used a cd that a colleague had for training her dog about different noises and then just found pictures of the internet.

my classes favourite last year was
What do you get if you dial 666?
An upside down policeman.
-
How about things like- different fabrics- fur, hessian, cotton, foil, bubble wrap etc.
Different toys...
Also as an alternative to a try a feely bag or box so children are just using their sense of touch.
I used shaving faom last year and had a child with servere eczema and he was fine... we just made sure he wahed his hands well afterwards- also worth talking to the parentsof children with skin conditions.

Knoksk- don't panic.....
Some settings use topics some don't its an individual preference. If the school you are working at uses topics then use them as a loose coathanger to hang activities and ideas off of. You can still observe the children and find out what they already know- maybe brainstorm the topic with them... from talking to them and observing them you will find out what they already know and can then build your dailt or weekly plans from that.
Remember they are new to school too- so the first couple of weeks will be about establishing routines, knowing where things are and generally getting to know each other. What I usually do for the first week or two is use some familiar stories as starting points for the day or a couple or days so books like Elmer, Dogger...... you can read them as a class and talk about them and then maybe have a follow up or maybe not- when readinf elmer my follow up was to pint elmers to make a birthday chart, have the linking elephants out to play with.....
Also have a daily circle time- playing simple name games- roll the ball to.... pass toy around and say your name.
Rememebr that planning is for you- you could put a rough plan together and just fill it in retrospectively as opportunities and activities happen.
Do you have a parallel teacher to work with? Have you met your mentor yet?
Try and remember to pace yourself. Being an NQT is hard work... make sure that you try and take time for yourself to relax and time away from school activities.
Good luck... let us know how you get on.

Good luck to everyone- enjoy the new term.
Really strange for me this year as i am not returning- just starting maternity leave. Its been fantastic to rest all summer and i know I only have acouple of weeks left till meeting my three little ones. But I still find it sad in a way that i am not starting the new term.
Enjoy it everyone.
