  1. Finleysmaid - totally agree but just now going through the motions and trying to support my staff member

She will be too much of a risk in the setting I believe, and when stating light duties it may even be a matter of sticking photos in journals . This way she would still earn a little money if we could afford to pay her and her cover as she does not get ssp

It's a real tricky one as she has been with us for sometime and we work very well as a team helping each other out when personal issues arise.

However the children and staff working are my priority

She will not be returning until she has a fit note from her doctor.

  2. Thanks for relpies I have now spoken to the staff member and she fully understands she probably is unable to work. She is still in much pain and daily life is a struggle for her :(

We are checking insurance and looking for light duties once her pain is eased she knows she will be a risk to others and herself.but with the arm in a sling and fully plastered she has little choice we must all keep safe.

  3. Hoping someone else has been in this situation and give some advice?

I have a staff member that broke her arm outside pre school, had operation and has four pins in it, this happened the last week of term and is still on high medication for pain.

We are. Pack away pre school and have tried to think of light duties for her however it's her right arm and is limited to her use of the left one.

Anyone else had similar issues I feel in our setting she would not only be a risk to herself but the children and other staff, we are very busy in January and have lots of new starters already booked, we are in a large hall and have an outside play policy normally in the woods or surrounding areas.

Anyone have any ideas? She does work full time only contacted for 8 hours term time only

  4. Was there too now thinking the same thing but my is around our quiet/reading area

My daughter in her school today setting up all her bits

but it is exciting and a great way to start a new term :)

  5. Ok I'll have to use potato peelers but if anyone in the Rochester / Kent is interested there is a lovely hardware store in Rochester who have ordered them for me! They are Opinel and they are £9.95 each but will last for ages!

They are cheaper onloine but I thought for three I would support my local shop!

Hope you are still trekking off to the woods Sue!

    Lorna

Yes Lorna we are regularly also Kim and I are attending a Forest Training at Trosley the week we return to school,(its a ltttle expensive and its not the full NVQ as finances did not permit but its sounds interesting and will hopefully give us some more practical ideas. This cohort LOVE puddles and MUD!!! and their parents are ok about it YAY!! their imagination is just fantastic and parents are following it up at home with family trips to woods and sharing them with us in their journals. We also had a tree surgeon come in and give us a demonstration (all at child level) showed us climbing up tree (got some more rope for the children for the forest) Showed them how to chip wood (got some free woodbark) They held the huge chain saws (not working of course) So we used our saws when we got back. (All from asking a parent to come in after observing his child's play The child does have behavoiur issues but this has really turned him around he was so proud and shared his daddy with his peers Fantastic!!!)

Its lovely to still see your posts on here Hope you are well

  6. No tune - you just sort of 'chant' it!!! :1b

I sort of 'chant' most of my singing!!!   as I make up songs so much and change them each time to trick the children it always works LOL Sometimes I panic when someone hears me having one of the 'chanting' moments all my staff are used to it. Just love music cds that has the tune so I can make up words. Off to get on the x factor xD

  7. That would very much depend upon your views, or as in our case we rent a hall from a religious organisation and so I would only acknowledge it by doing black cats and pumpkins, not witches and ghosts, we certainly don't make a huge fuss over it, but of course, these days it is very commercial.

We are much the same as Panders being a person who has always been really afraid of halloween I tend to skim over it we may experient using halloween colours BLACK paint messy stuff!! no ghosts and who needs witches when they have ME!!!

We have had many families requesting we don't do it so thats just fine with me, I think its too American nowadays and I will not be opening my door Bah humbug!!

  10. Bit of a delayed reply (must be because I am old)

Thank you, returning to pre-school on your 50th was tough!! BUT it was sunny the new children settled in lovely and parents were nice THEN my staff arranged Champagne and canepes (spelt wrong) in the pre-school garden!!! It was beautiful lots of lovely pressies too - spent the weekend with my family and laughed soooo much, now hubbie is taking me to Lanzarote for 6 days fly out Weds night ( could take any more time off) Its the first time I have gone away during term time but I know I have one of the best Staff teams and feel my pre-school will be more than safe in their hands (NEVER ever thought I would think that must be an age thing)

A Very Spoilt Big Sue

  13. I too work in a building that sometimes has 'other users' - luckily we are upstairs and everything else takes place downstairs - I tell other users that they must not under any circumstances use 'our' toilets - there is one disabled loo downstairs - some people have been huffy with me - but I just point out that this is a 'safeguarding issue' and that my 'rules' protect them too

I do the same I tell others and so do my staff Disabled toielt is avaiable, Our toilets have an alarmed gate so we hear anyone trying to enter!

Sunnyday love the description 'HUFFY' will use that one because I guess I am in safeguarding my children!
