hi guys, i really wanted to have a rant, so please excuse me, but knew i could do it in here without feeling really bad!! :(

We have just received our schools for a two week placement from uni. my course is Early childhood and education studies. On the preference form i ticked KS1 because there was no foundation stage option.

I looked on the chart today only to find that i have been placed in a Y5!!

xD:o:(

Im really cross, and i know that ul say it will be good experience but iv had experience of this age before, and know that i don't want to teach upper school.

I just wish that if they are going to bother asking for your preference, that they will at least look at it before they place you!!!

thanks for listening

laura. x

That takes me back to checking the board for my placement when I was doing teacher training. It is frustrating, and the tutors never seem to be sympathetic - even when you have a vaild reason.

They couldn't have put you much further away from your preferred age group if they'd try.

I wonder if they would let you try early years philosophy with Year 5 topics -bet they would love to play really! I once did a Y3 class as an EYS specialist but I asked for that to get cross-phase experience -it does seem to bode well when you are looking for jobs in some schools. If you definitiely don't want the placement then I'd ask if a change is possible or whether they would consider you finding your own placement with your chosen age-group

Hi Laura,

Out of interest, which uni are you at? I'm at Anglia Ruskin in Chelmsford doing the BA(Hons)in Early Primary Education. (First year) I've got a nursery placement and love it. I do sympathise with you being in a placement you don't want. Is your uni like mine and very short of placements? Some of our students had to wait ages for their placements.

Just to make you feel better I'll tell you about my gripe. I got my first assignment results back yesterday. I passed two, but got a referral on the third, I missed out on passing it by one stupid mark GRR! I can re-sit it and of course I will, but I'm not happy. :o

All sympathy notes will be gratefully received.

Sympathy notes coming your way Lynngo! :(

Reminds me of my final year dissertation many years ago, and I mean many, had my viva voce where we discussed my paper and the tutor said you do realise you have spelt whether/wether wrong throughout the entire document? :o

Still it all turned out ok in the end but my stomach did hit the floor, anyway still teaching 16 years later. Hmm... went down memory lane a bit then but I'm sure you got the point. It will all be ok in the end and it is worth the agony! xD

Laura, glad you felt able to rant and I hope that in itself has made you feel a bit better, but i doubt it. Maybe there is someone else who would swap placements ( if that is possible).

Lynngo, sympathy sent in bucketloads, but also congratulations for the 2 which did pass. :D

Laura, Yes, it does seem annoying that they put your preference and then don't do it but maybe they are short of placements as someone else said so at least you can get your bit out the way but it is a long way from where you want to be as well.

As for failing by one mark Lynngo, gosh that must be really frustrating and annoying to say the least - I too would be gutted but you cannot do anything about it, unlesss you can ask for it to be second marked. But you seem to have got your head around it and are prepared to retake it so good luck with whatever and well done for passing the other two.

Thanks for the sympathy guys! I do feel better about it now. Just got to plod on and learn from my mistakes I suppose. :o

I'm researching for an assignment on behaviour at the moment. Any recommendations of good books / websites would be helpful. xD
