What about the three bears cottage, with three different size bears /chairs/bowls/beds. Lots of language for size and comparisions. Make porridge, sweeten it with honey. also try flap jacks. Send a letter from Goldilocks saying sorry to the bears. Look at pictures of real bears talk about hibernation they are waking up now. There are lots of stories about bears. Going on a bear hunt. Teddy bear rhymes.

Just a few to get you started.

We made a lovely Cinderella's castle for role play - we had enough space for a throne room and an armoury - we made sheilds and hobby horses. Children wrote invitations, menus for the ball, recipes etc.

They also loved making up stories about dragons and princesses (some had obviously watched Shrek!).

We also read 'Pointy-hatted Princesses' by Nick Sharratt - We then took photos of chn. in hats and crowns and made our own rhyming class book - e.g Princess Holly pushed a trolley.

'The Pizza Princess' fitted in well too - chn. loved acting out the story and we made pizza of course, we took a photograhic record and made a recipe book together.

Hope this is of some use, good luck!

We did much the same as Tracey but we found a huge box (raid the skip outside Dixons etc but take a big car!!!) which we turned into the coach. We did lots of dancing with flags, scarves etc in PE. Big blocks were excellent for building the castle, towers etc which can be translated into fine manipulative skills with junk modelling as a group, or Duplo/lego. The junk modelled castle was excellent for cooperative skills and had so much PVA and paper holding it together it lasted ages!

Hiya

just thought i'd update on my nursery placement. i decided to start with the story of goldilocks and the three bears. the children loved the bears and we now spent 3 weeks on the topic. we changed the role play area into the 3 bears cottage, with fur coats and goldilocks dress.

we have read the bear hunt book and polar bears stories. the children have loved making and painting different bears. we used white and brown play dough and polar bears in shaving foam and soap flakes.

the children tasted porridge in three different bowls made by "mother bear". the children also played with cold porridge, a mess but lots of fun.

for a visit we went to the bear factory shop, the children saw how bears are made and helped make a special bear for nursery. each child put a heart into the bear that they kissed so the bear is full of love. the bear factory were great and gave each child a goodie bag, a recomended visit.

Cincerella next week, if any one has any good ideas?
