Soft Play Equipment

Recommended Posts

Hi, has anyone got any inspiring/safe ways to use soft play equipment. We only have a short time that we can use it and have to put it out and away while the children are there. Are there any books?

not sure what sort of soft play equipment you have but this is what we have done.

am actually very fortunate to be in a nursery with a permanent soft play corner (where 2 children can play) but for a while we had to set up temporary provision in our school hall and had experience of setting up (and putting away) daily. One member of staff set area up whilst other led group time (and same for putting away).

We tried to set up a variety of arrangements to maximise interest and numbers who could participate. By setting up a kind of course we found more children could have a go and keep rotating round e.g. along balance beam onto mat with tunnel to crawl through, then another mat at end with either trampoline or rockers to finish.

For our permanent area we have a board with places for 2 children to put their name cards - this regulates the number who play there.

We have planned maths linked activities e.g using a dice with the trampoline or acting out 5 speckled frogs. Again these ensure more children can be safely included as provide opportunities for lots of 'turns'.

Last week we had rocking horses and 2 boys told me they were cowboys so some possiblities for linking with role-play also.

Don't know of any books other than adapting activities suggested for early years PE / physical development.
