Travel Agents Role Play Area

HI

I work in a pre-school room of a day nursery, our topic at present is Transport, and for our role play area we have a travel agents, however it seems rather sparse,.... we only have lots of travel brochures in there at the moment, a phone, old laptop, pens paper and that;'s about all... what more could we add.

Its not a hugely large area (only has one table in it, and a house type front)... but how else can we make it more fun for the children to be in there and to develop there role play (ideally around travel agents/booking holiday's etc....) The children actually love the area as it is,a nd often extend their role play out of it by prtending to be on planes, trains etc to get to their holiday's... but id like to make the area in itself a little more intersting a little more travel agent(ish).... all children know what happens in a travel agents as we have visited one but we just wnat to make our area as 'real' as possible.

any ideas greatly appreciated.

Dawn :D

How about a map of the world on display and children can put sticky dots on the location they want to go to.

This can be used in the future when children do go on holiday and send a postcard, this can be attached next to map with arrow pointing to location.

Passport office, Bureau de change, postcards to look at.

Flag display for various countries.

For next time / year, ask all your staff / parents / children to pick up tourist info leaflets, postcards, newspapers, menu's, bus / train tickets etc when on holiday, these make interesting resources.

Have fun.

Peggy beat me with the map idea :o

What about travel brochures for hot/cold countries - skiing hols. Then provide them with a suitcase and a selection of clothes. Which would they need to pack for their destination - (interesting that they'd need sun glasses for both).

You could also, possibly tie it in with the World Cup - booking tickets for the world cup or returning home after different countries are knocked out!!!

Could you focus on specific countries and learn the greeting? My reception class two years ago loved learning new greetings.

We have had a travel agents in our role play this week and as well as some of the things already mentioned we had a selection of foreign currency donated by parents (left from previous hols) passport forms and passports, a kind travel agent gave us some booking forms (photocopy because they get through dozens a day) those special deal cards you see in the window which we also copied laminated pictures of resorts

we've also printed some maps and flags from:
