FSF Event - Breakout Room Question 5 - Do you feel you receive adequate support and training in relation to your children with learning differences or disabilities? What has worked well?

Recommended Posts

The absence of funded training from LAs was a big focus in the session.

And that if there was really strong training across the sector, this would help prevent what can be called the ‘Honey Pot Effect’ - which is where settings who become known for doing things well in terms of working with children with additional support needs, get many requests to welcome children and families with learning differences or disabilities.

There was also discussion about the disparity in approaches and capacity between LAs, for example, you can be in one that has good EYs support, and then the one over the border has very little support for EYs and children with SEND.

Some said they found ways to organise their own training, connecting with specialist schools and health professionals.
