Hello, is there a way to add next steps to an observation that can then be reviewed or ticked off later on?

we use the # system...then you can search by hashtag....would that work for you? (i like simple!)

Hashtags are definitely a great way to add these and filter by them. You can use the Additional Information box for this and hide it from relatives (in User Permissions) if you wanted. 

Another option would be to create a set of Bespoke Flags which you apply to the observation in which you talk about the next steps.
