SO I have had a request for a 14 and a half year old to do a 2 year placement with us for one afternoon a week. She is studying her childcare gcse. As she is so young she will not require a DBS but I wondered if because of her age we would need to include her in our childcare ratios???(ie the 1-8 !) might be a daft question really just wondering before I have a chat with her!

I would say no - the EYFS is 0-5 and the Childcare register is just that 'a register of care for children' you are not caring for her. I found this from the HSE which seems to answer your questions and gives very useful advice.

Hope it helps :)

you see I knew it was a daft question!!  I've had lots of students before but not quite so young and for so long. I'm a bit surprised that the school hasn't contacted me....I might ring them and have a chat before I interview her!. We already have an under 18 risk assessment in place so this is not an issue and the insurance is fine.

Thanks!!
