Hello all

we are delivering a one day training event for Nursery practitioners on the subject of 'Developing Young Mathematicians'. The course will be held in an Infant and Nursery school in Birmingham on Wednesday April 5th and costs £90 including refreshments and lunch. It is open to all.

The course is led by Sarah Quinn of Focus Education. A brief outline is below. If anyone is interested please PM me and I can forward more info and a booking form.

Course outline

This course will enable you to develop your knowledge and understanding of how children use the concrete, pictorial and abstract to develop fluency, reasoning and problem solving in nursery and how to support greater depth learning by making effective links to other areas of learning. We shall also touch on observation, planning and assessment.

The training will address the following:

· The essential skills and knowledge for children to master by the end of nursery.

· Starting points – what to focus on when carrying out a baseline

· How do children develop mathematical skills across the curriculum – Teach it, practise it, apply it and drip, drip, drip!

· How do children develop as mathematicians - the importance of pattern, mastery and deeper learning especially for those with a keen interest?

· Assessment – what are we assessing and how?

Thanks for reading
