Guest
Hi all, Does anyone know where I can get any resources to suport a role play / small world play theme on cold place and hot places. We have been looking at the Antartic and the Arctic and are moving on to the jungle next week. I have tried the Early Learning centre but not much success??? Any ideas?? Guest
I agree. We got that instant snow powder from there, added a few small world people and houses with home made sleighs. The children loved it. You can also do a snow scene using modroc and plaster of paris and junk in a builders tray (just paint it white and pale blue and add a bit of glitter). You can put some blue or silver paper down aswell then the animals can go for a swim. There were some other ideas in the 50 things to do with a builders tray book but I havent got it with me at the moment. Playmobil used to do people with sledges I think they had some on ebay a while back - it might be worth a look. Hope this helps a little Sue
JacquieL
Use an old white sheet and/or an old duvet for your role-play area for the snow. You can make sledges, skidoos etc. out of boxes with the children. We used a small paddling pool as water and made lots of silver fish to go in it- put numbers on them and supply rods and hey presto maths. For the jungle scene you can use a camoflage net. I got one on a local market for £10. It weas worth it because we used it for forest scenes as well-
Guest
Have you looked at doing storyboxes? Not difficult to do a snowy places one [or more] with little outlay if you get the shoeboxes from a shoeshop - they'll usually give a few free; the white ones are best. The you could do jungle later to compare/contrast.
Guest
Our children love it when we place lots and lots of shredding paper on the floor, we have pretend snow storms and even roll the paper into snowballs which don't hurt when they are thrown at you peggy
