MrsL
Our County are looking likely to move towards a one intake for Nursery, all starting in September. Does anyone already do this? Would you have the older children in the mornings and younger children in the afternoon? Any words of wisdom?!
catma
What will happen for the children who are reaching nursery age later in the year then?
thumperrabbit
In my area all our Maintained nurseries are 1 intake and are full in the September - that's for the 15 hours they all do morning only for this. What they then do is run 'wrap around' (which is considered the private bit) which is open for any morning nursery children plus they then take any other children who are 3 and for this people pay, or use funding if not taken elsewhere
MrsL
Thanks for that. Catma any child who turns nursery age that year starts in September. No January starters. We have a 50 place nursery and have to take half in the morning and half in the afternoon. We currently have older children in the mornings and younger in the afternoon so it would make sense to stay like this, I just wondered if there was a benefit for doing a different way that I hadn't thought of! Guest
We have one intake as the schools only do gage one in my area Keep them mixed , the different age groups work well . The older ones are given a bit of responsibility of looking after/ buddying the younger ones and the younger ones settle much quicker being around the older ones. I love the one intake we gradually bring them in over 3 weeks They mix well with the children that have remained from the previous year Edited February 28, 2014 by Suer
