Hi, wondering if anyone can shed light on my query?

Is it standard practise for the EYFS leader not to have any experience in Early Years and not be the Reception teacher?

I am the Reception teacher, responsible for everything EYFS and provide regular feedback to SMT for assessment, progress etc.

The EYFS leader openly admits knowing zero about early years - are other people in this situation? I am considering looking for an EYFS leader position as I feel a little overlooked in my current role.

Any thoughts would be gratefully received.

Thanks!

Standard practise? Is there such a thing?

Your situation does sound unusual but not impossible for the leader to be teaching elsewhere.

If you are not happy with the situation then you need to be looking elsewhere.

Good luck.

We didn't have a FS leader/ co ordinator for ages but the head of KS1 kind of over saw us!

Didn't work well.

Then the nursery teacher took over the post so we have had it both ways really!

Think you should look elsewhere. Common problem. Makes me mad as eys teachers tend to get on with it and are self motivated. Could eyes teacher be head ot ks2? Eyes teachers wouldn't go for it.
