Rea
Start with any animals they have at home and build on it. I think most animals have astounding abilities, especially if they're compared to us. A dogs sense of smell, a cats ability to jump, a hamsters ability to store its food in its cheeks, a rabbit can dig tunnels. If you want more exotic creatures, rats and ferrets are used to lay cables in underground pipes, chameleons can change colour, salmon can jump up waterfalls, eagles can see for miles, owls have astonishing night sight. The animals on te most recent David Attenborough programme were amazing, ants that could withstand the heat of the day no other creature could tolerate, elephants memories of where to find water, butterflies who travel 3000 miles to what they perceive as 'home'. It depends where you want to start and end up.
